Verify your important documents. Here's why...

"Had it been any other problem, I would understand, but this is very annoying", Mom said. I started losing hopes regarding our family trip to Dubai. Though, I balanced it with a lot of shopping. Dad found himself lucky as he was busy with work during that month of mess and uncertainty.

It was 2013. I was about to turn 18 in a few months. I was not going to be a minor anymore. My passport had to be renewed.  No, this was not a problem. I filled the application form, collected all the necessary documents and kept everything ready as per the passport agent's advice. I went to the passport office for the final round of procedures. They said that my passport will be delivered in 15 days. Mom and I peeped through the keyhole whenever the doorbell rang. 20 days went by and finally I could see a postman standing at the door. I was happy to see an envelope in his hand. To me, he was a Santa Claus in guise of a postman. Mom gave him some water and a sweet. We closed the door and I opened the envelope. My concern was to see whether I am looking good in the photo on it. Well, I never like how I look in passport sized photos. Maybe passport sized photos were made to embarrass us. While going through all the general information, I realized there was a 'M' printed before the gender section. "Oh lord, why did they change my gender", I kept whining over it, the whole day.

Mom called the passport agent. What he said was a very unsatisfactory answer. He said, " Her name is 'Sai' which is confusing for anyone to understand, because in India, most of the men have that name". Yes, my name is Sai but it is pronounced as Saiee, putting less stress on 'a' and more on 'iee'. Moreover, I filled my form and I had mentioned my gender as female, of course. Mom was annoyed by his answer and she kept the phone. Now we had to do something to solve this error. We again went to the passport office and told them to change my gender (only on papers). They said it will be delivered in 15 days. As soon as it came, I was hunting to see whether i got my female identity back.

We packed our bags and we were all set to go. Currency was to be arranged by the respective tour company. Therefore we were relaxed about that topic. We reached Dubai and had a wonderful time. Yes we were relaxed about the currency until we learnt we had been cheated, which is a story for some other day. Not to worry; My smart mom had kept dollars with her for being on safe side, which is why we could survive through Dubai. It was not just a journey to Dubai. It was a journey from 'minor to major' , 'male to female' followed by a journey from 'rupees to dirhams'. Our Dubai trip has set a landmark in my memory. Maybe travel stories are incomplete without such gaffes.

Here We GROW! | Learnings from the book: Free Your Mind

Exactly one year ago, I published a blog: Perks of having nothing to do, where I wrote about the positive side of having absolutely nothing to do. It's a coincidence that this year, we are all having those perks by our side. This year, all of us have switched to the super basic mode of living life. It's strange how difficult it is for most of us to live a simple life. We're not used to this. At the back of our mind, most of us are upset about the situation. Even I am. After a lot of thinking, overthinking, crying, we're all finding our own calm and dealing with this one day at a time. As you must already know, Feeling low in this situation is very natural. Finding the way out of these troublesome thoughts can be a task. For those of us who are struggling to pave our own career path, any kind of hindrance can seem like the sky is falling or the universe is not on our side. Especially when we have so much time in our hands, control over our negative thoughts can go o...

Just Chilling With Michelle Obama #NotABookReview

Yes. It's not a book review. It's about how I felt when I was reading her book: Becoming . Firstly, I'm not someone who has read many books. The number of books I've read cover to cover, I can count them on my fingers. I can say this one is my favorite amongst them. I've always been fond of this lady and her beau turned husband. One of my friends even texted Barack Obama on Instagram to request him to wish me on my birthday. Can you believe it? Of course, he didn't reply. He has much greater and better things to do. I have stalked this couple enough to scroll down till the end of their social media pages to read each caption under every photo, just to know them better. I remember watching the former President Obama on TV cry when he found out about gun violence in one of the states in the U.S. I have watched this couple in their individual appearances on the Ellen Show. Also, YouTube videos of Obama getting burgers and fries for the people in the White H...

In company of a Rose..

Image Courtesy: www.bhg.com A symbol of love and a common element across Valentine’s Day wallpapers; A rose may have given life to many love stories in this way. But this is not in any mushy context. I’m specifically talking about a rose I received when I was least expecting it. I looked closely at it, brushed those soft petals over my palm, and thought to myself: If I had a chance, I would shrink myself into a miniature version of me and take a nap inside it. It was a hot summer afternoon. It had only been 8 days since my internship started. I was rushing to office. Heat and traffic were in good coordination. It looked like they had planned this in advance. It was starting to look like a bad day, and a bad hair day in addition. I reached office. I signed the register and wrote my not-so-ideal entry time with some shame on my face. As I was about to enter the office, the clerk at the reception handed over a rose and a chocolate saying, “Happy Women’s Day”. I replied with a ...
